TerraMaster F4-420 NAS review

And in some respects that isn’t far from the truth. You’ll have to fork out a minimum of $3 / £2.50 / AU$4 a month for the Basic plan. On top of this, the security camera also has the same pre-roll feature found on the Ring Video Doorbell 4, which stores four seconds of color footage recorded before the motion was detected, again giving you a better understanding of what triggered the alert. On that note, the Ring apps Motion Zones feature works well, letting you choose which areas in the covered area will trigger the lights/recording when movement is detected. If you’re already a Ring device owner you’ll be familiar with the Ring app and its array of features.

You haven’t got power nearby Anything outside these zones (trees, neighbour’s driveways etc) will be ignored, saving you from being bombarded with notifications for no reason. This will set you back $3 / £2.50 / AU$4 per month, on top of the already pricey camera, which costs $249.99 / £219 / AU$379. It’s available in black or white too, so you can have some control over how much it blends in or sticks out if you fancy. You’ll have to pay either yearly or monthly for a Ring Protect subscription to unlock cloud storage though, so if you’d rather not have another monthly cost to worry about, you’re better off looking elsewhere.

Last year we reviewed the TerraMaster F2-220, a dual-drive NAS that offered plenty of computing power, but needed to enhance the software side of that proposition. TerraMaster F4-420 NAS The only real downsides for some users are the fact that you have to pay for Ring Protect if you want to store footage to review at a later date (which, let’s face it, you will), and access the features we’ve mentioned above. If, however, you’re installing it in a location where there’s no existing wiring, then you’ll want to call in a qualified electrician.

Some might find this more gimmicky than others, but it doesn’t detract away from the solid performance everywhere else. The Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro has 140-degree lens and records clear Full HD video in color during the day, and at night providing the LEDs are alight. As we’ve already mentioned, the Ring Floodlight Cam Pro Wired has a 140-degree lens that is capable of recording color Full HD footage during the day, and at night if the floodlights are illuminated. If you’d rather not pay for the ability to record videos then there are alternative devices like the Nest Doorbell (battery) which offer free storage.

Poor documentation, limited apps, and CPU power that is difficult to utilize are all issues here. You will receive a verification email shortly. If you’ve already got an outdoor light or camera set up then it’s a relatively simple job of turning off the power from the fuse box, removing the old light, and hooking up your fancy new one. The Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro is a simple home security camera that records clear video and comes with built-in LEDs and a siren to deter Intruders.

There are also two 80mm fans at the rear to keep the contents cool, and power input for a laptop-style PSU. Given the TerraMaster numbering convention, it would be easy to assume that the F4-420 is merely a four drive version of the F2-220. On the TerraMaster specification page it proudly proclaims that instead of using an ARM CPU, the F4-420 has been blessed with a quad-core 2GHz Intel Celeron (J1900) along with 4GB of DDR3 memory. Remember, though, that you have to pay for Ring Protect if you want to record any footage at all. Rather, areas that are lit up by ambient light will show dashes of colour.

Essentially, it’s a metal and plastic construction that feels robust even if it doesn’t break any new ground in terms of style or imagination. Mark is an expert on displays, reviewing monitors and TVs. A well-designed bit of kit that gets the job done and then some, thanks to a wide variety of clever tech and app-led smarts. By Esat Dedezade last updated 16 September 2021 If that doesn’t scare pests away, nothing will.

It’s also the first of Ring’s home security cameras to feature a built-in radar, which enables two handy features designed to reduce unwanted activity alerts and provide a better understanding of what triggered the activity alert. You have a compatible Alexa device He also covers storage including SSDs, NAS drives and portable hard drives. You’re better off going with Google’s own Nest security brand instead. Ring is one of the most well-known video doorbell brands on the market right now. If you’ve got an Echo Show device or Fire tablet then the ability to call up a live feed from your security camera is a neat trick that will prove to be more than useful for ease of use – especially if you want to view your live footage on a larger screen.

The Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro can be snapped up for $249.99 / £219 / AU$379 in the US, UK and Australia, directly from Ring. Sure, you might have qualms about interrupting the clean lines of your dwelling with a gadget perched on the outer wall like some kind of futuristic gargoyle, but one of the first (and best) lines of defense, security cameras offer is a visual deterrent, so it’s a win in our book. However, you can’t allocate an SSD as a cache for conventional drives, unfortunately.

There is an option to turn on colour night vision, but this won’t magically add colour. You want all the bells and whistles If you’d rather conserve energy though, you can set them to come on purely when motion is detected. However, the brand also offers a range of indoor and external home security cameras too. Meanwhile, the ‘Bird’s Eye View’ feature lets you track the movement of subjects from above. If you don’t, there’s almost no point in forking out this much cash, as you can spend your money on a more basic camera that just offers a live feed.

It is possible to install 3.5 and 2.5-inch mechanisms, allowing for 2.5-inch SSDs along with conventional spinning platter-based storage. The Ring Floodlight Cam Pro Wired mounted on the exterior of a building It takes a few seconds to fire up, but it works well, and there’s something rather Tony Stark-like about checking up on your outer perimeter without having to lift a finger. In our previous F2-200 review, we commented about the lack of locks on the drive bays, inviting their accidental unlatching.

Design-wise there’s little not to like. The appearance of the F4-420 is something that you’ll either like or hate, but it’s consistent with the TerraMaster range of NAS boxes and its passion for rounded silver surfaces. If, for example, someone walks diagonally across your driveway to the side of your house, you can trace their path as a series of dots in a map that’s not too dissimilar from the one you might find in an online FPS. The Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro is its latest release, and while it has a bit of a convoluted name, don’t let that put you off — this is a feature-packed home security camera that has an array of features to help you feel safer at home It’s not a feature that’s proven to be massively useful, though we suppose it could one day reveal the colour of a suspect’s clothes for easier identification.

Thank you for signing up to TechRadar. We only dared test it for five seconds or so, and even from the back of the house, we could clearly hear its piercing wails, similar to that of a car alarm. You want free recording A well-designed bit of kit that gets the job done and then some, thanks to a wide variety of clever tech and app-led smarts.

At night with the floodlights off, infrared night vision kicks in, which obviously provides a softer monochrome picture compared to daylight conditions. The Floodlight Cam Wired Pro’s 1080p camera offers a generous 140-degree horizontal and 80-degree vertical field of view, which should be more than enough coverage for most people’s needs. Solid hardware design and construction can’t overcome the lack of attention given to the TOS NAS operating system and applications. In the US, for example, that means a single payment of $100 for a year of Ring Protect Plus, instead of the $120 you’d spend after 12 months of installments. The Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro is a simple home security camera that records clear video and comes with built-in LEDs and a siren to deter Intruders.

Sign up to the TechRadar Pro newsletter to get all the top news, opinion, features and guidance your business needs to succeed! Given the fact that it’s a permanent installation, its size is far from an issue, and the fact that it’s easily noticeable is, for most people, a good thing. He started writing in 1986 and had contributed to MicroMart, PC Format, 3D World among others. If your home’s crammed with Google Assistant-powered devices and screens, then you’ll be disappointed in the lack of compatibility with Ring.

Curiously that’s a lower processor clock than the F4-220, which sported a 2.4GHz Intel J1800. It also has built-in speakers for conversing with anyone in the camera’s field of view, along with a piercingly loud siren which can be remotely activated as a severe deterrent to any would-be intruders. Nest’s rival serves up three hours of free cloud storage, which should be more than enough for most people. Current page: Introduction and design There’s an impressive amount of features crammed into the Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro.

You can, for example, turn the floodlight on and off manually, but it’s far easier to set up a schedule for when the lights come on, and you can leave them on all night if you like. Having launched its first smart doorbell in 2013, Ring has continued to unveil new and improved models year after year. The increase in CPU power has little impact on the speed of reading or writing across the network, so what can the F4-420 do with that extra performance? Using a RAID 5 configuration a whopping 36GB of usable space is available.

Lastly, if you’ve got an Alex-enabled smart display such as the Amazon Echo Show 10, you can also summon up a live view of the camera feed using nothing but a voice request. The timeline of events is impressive too, letting you scrub through the past 24 hours’ worth of footage with motion events clearly highlighted. If you’ve already got at least one other Ring device in your home then it’s a no-brainer keeping to the same product family, especially with the Ring Protect Plus plan which supports recording across unlimited devices.

Sadly Google Assistant compatibility is non-existent, which might pose a problem if you’re firmly in the Google camp. When it comes to installation, things aren’t quite as simple as, say, the Ring Video Doorbell 4. 3D Motion allows you to set a specific threshold, and the camera will only alert you and start recording when the radar senses that a person or object has passed the threshold.

TerraMaster F4-420 NAS review

Powerful NAS hardware that needs a better software platform

<

p>By Mark Pickavance last updated 25 March 2018 You can spend a bit less overall by paying for it in one go as opposed to monthly installments. The angle of the camera and floodlights are easily adjustable, too, letting you achieve your perfect setup with the confidence that they’ll stay where you’ve pointed them. You’ll have to pay either yearly or monthly for a Ring Protect subscription to unlock cloud storage though, so if you’d rather not have another monthly cost to worry about, you’re better off looking elsewhere. This is a swanky-looking security camera with a sleek weatherproof plastic build that’s sturdy, with rounded edges and swooping curves that lend it a rather modern look.

Is it a clever idea? Absolutely — but it’s probably not really necessary, given that you have actual video footage that shows you where a subject is anyway. Measuring 9.7 x 11.8 x 7.05 inches / 24.6 x 29.9 x 17.9cm (w x h x d), the Ring Floodlight Cam Pro Wired is fairly large, thanks to the beefy camera unit and the pair of large 1,000 lumen floodlights that flank it from above. Or 24TB if you decide to use a RAID 1 mirror instead. From crisp video to powerful floodlights, built-in alarms, customizable motion alerts and even innovative birds-eye view smarts, it offers plenty of tools to tinker with.

Designed to be mounted on an exterior wall or an outbuilding, it’ll alert your smartphone if the camera detects motion, but can also be set to illuminate two oval-shaped LEDs capable of 1,000 lumens each, that sit on either side of the camera itself. Another cost you’ll need to take into account is a Ring Protect subscription which unlocks a premium service that provides cloud storage for video and access to some of the features to reduce unwanted alerts. And that’s the only significant difference between the F4-420 and it’s 30% cheaper F4-220 cousin. It’s a bit of a moot point though, because when the two floodlights fire up, their 2000-lumen brightness does a superb job of bathing their coverage area with bright light, making low light footage impressively clear.

Are you a Pro? Subscribe to our newsletter! On the front of this unit are four vertically mounted 3.5-inch drive bays, an array of LED indicator lights and the power button. You already have a Ring Protect subscription And that remains unchanged here, sadly.

Once set up, you can tap to view a live feed whenever you fancy, but the real magic comes when you dive into the settings and customise everything to your needs. This covers one Ring device, so if you’re rocking multiple cameras (including Ring doorbells), then the cost rises to $10 / £8 / AU$15 for the Plus plan, which supports unlimited devices. This combines the built-in https://jiji.ug/42-condos 3D object detection radar with an overhead view of your house (pulled up when you input your address), to create a minimap overlay showing where objects have moved during a motion detection event. Also worth noting is the fact that the 4GB of RAM on this system can’t be user upgraded. Around the back are two USB ports (one USB 3.0 along with a USB 2.0 connector) and dual Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports.

Another feature that might divide users is the 3D Motion Detection with Bird’s Eye view. This external home security camera is mains powered and uses the wiring from an existing sensor light, although if you’re not replacing an existing device, it’s likely to require professional installation. Like many Ring devices, the Floodlight Cam Wired Pro also has a built-in speaker, letting you scold suspicious cats or their burglar counterparts remotely via your tablet or phone. Poor documentation, limited apps, and CPU power that is difficult to utilize are all issues here. In the packaging, along with the F4-420 is a box that contains the PSU, power cables, a single Ethernet cable, and a screwdriver to use with a selection of drive mounting screws.

You’re in the Google camp Solid hardware design and construction can’t overcome the lack of attention given to the TOS NAS operating system and applications. If they’re still not getting the message, you can tap a button to set off the internal siren too. Let’s take a more detailed look at this NAS solution which is priced at $460 or £400. For those with four 12TB hard drives handy, there is the potential for 48TB of storage in the F4-420, but only if you’re willing to decline any form of resilience to drive failure.

The scrolling slows down when you go over an event of interest too, so you won’t miss what you’re looking for easily. The critical difference is that the J1900 is a quad-core processor, whereas the J1800 is dual-core. We’re not knocking the innovation here, it’s just that we wouldn’t recommend basing a purchase of this device on this one feature alone.

Video is crisp and clear in daylight, though we occasionally experienced a few pixellated moments if we’re viewing a live stream from the back of our house where the internet connection is at its weakest. This security camera requires mains-power so if you don’t want an electrician running wires around your home, it’s one to avoid. However, if you’re an existing Ring user though and are after a smart security camera that does it all, the Floodlight Cam Wired Pro should be a top contender for sure.

How to watch Samsung’s CES 2021 press conference live stream

Samsung has confirmed that it will be broadcasting its CES 2021 keynote to viewers around the world, via its own website (there’s no mention of a YouTube live stream this year but we’ll embed one if it becomes available). The first sees Head of Samsung Research, Sebastian Seung, offering up a sneak peek at what the company’s ‘special research team’ is up to. Meanwhile Bloomberg reports that Sony is aiming for a holiday 2022 release window, which would make a lot of sense, citing "people with knowledge of the matter." Was: £596.33 upfront or £49.94 p/m Now: $499.99 ($50 off) And we’re very pleased with all the experience that we’ve gained with PlayStation VR, and we look forward to seeing where that takes us in the future." Alex has covered every phone, tablet and wearable worth shouting about over the past eight years. This doesn’t reveal too much new about how the headset itself will work, but it looks smaller than its predecessor, and re-balanced to have more weight behind the user’s head and less resting on their face – which certainly sounds more comfortable.

Japan Display, otherwise known as JDI, is co-owned by Sony and produces the displays not only for the PSVR headset, but Sony smartphones too. Now: $499.99 ($50 off) The PSVR 2 headset may also sport numerous LEDs on the back of the headset to help improve movement tracking – one of the biggest issues with the current headset. Only the best deals on the best products handpicked by our expert editors Now: $59.95 ($40 off) But will it come at some stage?

We believe that. Sony has fortunately confirmed that it is working on a new VR headset – though we don’t know when it might come out, and only have a few concrete details as to what to expect from the new hardware. CES 2021 kicks off on Monday 11 January, but after the year that was 2020, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that this year’s expo isn’t being held at the Las Vegas Convention Center and is instead an all-digital affair.

This doesn’t affect our editorial independence. An unusual patent from 2017 was recently dug up by UploadVR, and reveals that Sony was interested in ways to shadow ban players in social VR apps based not only on their language, but also their behaviour and even body language. That could be used as simply as turning the headset on or off as you wear or remove it, but could also be used to help detect if you’re wearing it correctly and give real-time feedback.

In fact, the full PlayStation VR kit was priced at £399/$499 at release back in 2016, and we think that’s more representative of the potential cost of the second-gen PlayStation VR headset. There are reasons to doubt this though. Now: £899.90 (£100 off) . while the second shows a silhouette which is revealed to be Seung, once again, who is scheduled to serve as a key speaker during this year’s keynote.

Samsung actually kicked the year off with its First Look virtual event, where the company showcased this year’s range of TVs, as well as its new Neo QLED and microLED display technologies. Now: $24.98 ($24 off off) Now: £649 (£150 off) This is described only as a "head-mounted display," but it certainly looks like a VR headset to us. PSVR Without Parole echoes that claim, adding that the headset will combine foveated rendering with flexible scaling resolution (FSR), another technique to concentrate rendering power where it will be most noticeable to the player.

Let’s get the bad news out of the way One of the most anticipated upgrades to the second-gen PSVR is wireless connectivity, but Sony has already debunked that one, confirming on the PlayStation blog that the headset "will connect to PS5 with a single cord to simplify setup and improve ease-of-use, while enabling a high-fidelity visual experience." Only the best deals on the best products handpicked by our expert editors Another patent suggests that the PSVR 2 could also track your eyes. For reference, the high-end Vive Cosmos costs £699/$699, although the recent Oculus Quest 2 comes in much cheaper at only £299/$299. It’s a feature of most other major VR headsets, and would certainly be a welcome addition to the PlayStation VR 2. Another patent discovered by LetsGoDigital hints that Sony is working on both a VR headset and AR/VR glasses that might include new wear and haptic sensors. Now: £362.21 upfront or £30.34 p/m (Up to £234.12 off) As we move away from first-gen VR headsets, consumers are demanding higher-res displays to improve the overall look of VR content and make things like reading text in VR more comfortable, and it looks like the PSVR 2 won’t disappoint on that front. Alex Walker-Todd Haptics, speakers, and LEDs also feature in the new design as ways to give direct feedback to users while the headset is on.

Now: £679 (£120 off) We’ve seen all of those incorporated into the PS5 DualSense controller to great effect, so it makes a lot of sense that Sony might be applying the same tech to the PSVR 2. Spanish site Distrito Metaverso found a patent application filed by Sony in October 2021 that reveals a good look at a possible headset design. From: Virgin Media According to a patent found by LetsGoDigital, the PlayStation VR 2 headset may have three built-in cameras – two in the front and one in the back – alongside motion detection technology built into the headset itself. Now: $99.99 ($50 off) Sony believes in VR, and we definitely believe at some point in the future, VR will represent a meaningful component of interactive entertainment," he said. "Will it be this year?

No. The PlayStation VR headset currently sports a 5.7in 1920 x 1080 (386ppi) display, which was acceptable in 2016 but not so much in 2022. Furthermore, citing a behind-closed-doors developer conference (more on that below) YouTube channel PSVR Without Parole claims that Sony "will reveal their launch details in early 2022," which if anything suggests the launch might be earlier in the year than the holiday period. According to PSVR Without Parole’s report on the secret dev conference, the finger touch detection will go one step further: in addition to capacitive touch sensors, the controllers will be able to detect how far away from the sensors your fingers are, and even use that to infer where your other fingers are, generating an idea of the shape of your whole hand without you touching a thing. Now: $99.99 ($50 off) Detailed in a patent that was published back in July 2019, the headset could detect the “posture of the HMD worn on the head” and “determine a user’s gaze direction” to refine what each eye sees and improve stereoscopic depth, also known as parallax imaging.

Sony itself has confirmed a few features, but given few specifics – though the company promises enhancements to "everything from resolution and field of view to tracking and input." From: https://jiji.co.rw/rulindo/houses-apartments-for-sale Laptops Direct Now: £37 Clubcard Price (£13 off) Second, the same Bloomberg report that predicts a holiday 2022 release date specifically cites the PSVR 2 as one of the big VR industry holdouts that isn’t using JDI’s LCD tech, and says that the company will in fact use Samsung OLED panels. Now: Up to $550 off (With free Galaxy Buds 2) Now: Up to $550 off (With free Galaxy Buds 2) The new controllers also sport the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback present on the DualSense controller for PS5, arguably the best features of Sony’s new controller. Be that as it may, the show is still a priority for Samsung, with a host of new products expected to feature in its flagship keynote. Now: From £21 per month Now: £1,499.97 (£400 off) Now: From £21 per month For one, the channel claims that Sony will have a new focus on AAA VR games, moving away from what it calls "virtual reality experiences." To that end it will be pushing developers to work on games that support both VR and playing on TV, and as part of that will help to make it simple for players to only download the VR or TV versions of games as appropriate. With the PS5 now out worldwide, it’s no surprise that fans are ready for a PSVR 2 headset to go with the new home console. First up, the panel is much smaller than the 5.7in screen in the original PSVR – though Sony could of course use two of them. While the uses for the tech beyond improved image quality aren’t mentioned in the patent, it could be used to interact with games simply by looking – a great accessibility option for disabled gamers.

Now: $599 ($360 off) UploadVR cites "multiple sources" in claiming that the cord in question will be a USB-C lead, which makes sense given that Sony placed a single USB-C port pretty prominently on the front of the console. So far the only VR headsets that are wireless as standard are standalone models like the Oculus Quest 2, which are by their nature less powerful. Now: £649 (£150 off) PSVR Without Parole’s dev conference report reveals a little about Sony’s game strategy for the new PSVR.

Weeks after Sony confirmed that it was working on new controllers for the PSVR 2 headset, the company published a PlayStation Blog post detailing our first proper look at the upcoming controllers, and there’s a huge upgrade on offer. PSVR2, psvr1 doesn’t have the fidelity for Pavlov In the blog post confirming that work is underway on the headset, Sony’s Hideaki Nishino warned that "There’s still a lot of development underway for our new VR system, so it won’t be launching in 2021." Signs do point to a launch next year though. Now: $24.98 ($24 off off) Now: $59.95 ($40 off) The first-gen PlayStation VR starter bundle costs around £259 to buy right now, but that affordable price tag came after a handful of price drops. Now: £362.21 upfront or £30.34 p/m (Up to £234.12 off) Sony may have confirmed that it’s working on the PSVR 2 headset, but don’t expect to see it in stores any time before 2022.

This doesn’t affect our editorial independence. PSVR Without Parole cites the same figures, adding that the 4K OLED display will also support HDR, and that it will have a field-of-view (FOV) of 110 degrees – among the highest on the market. From: Virgin Media There aren’t any big in-your-face lights to rely on for tracking this time either, with Sony instead opting for smaller tracking rings that live at the bottom of each controller. It’s been five long years since Sony release the PlayStation VR back in 2016, and we are overdue a PlayStation VR 2 to follow it up. Now: $599 ($360 off) Only the best deals on the best products handpicked by our expert editors Transparency mode was also detailed in the patent, allowing the headset to display a certain amount of transparency when required – like when getting close to a real-world object – utilising the forward-facing cameras of the headset.

Separately, we’re expecting the long-rumoured Samsung Galaxy S21 smartphone family to debut at the company’s first Samsung Unpacked event of the year, scheduled for 14 January, presumably leaving the focus of this year’s CES keynote to fall to its smart home appliances, first and foremost. The current Move controllers do the job, allowing you to interact with virtual environments, but without 1:1 tracking, they simply can’t compete with the experience on offer from Vive, Cosmos or Oculus Touch controllers – and Sony knows it. Samsung’s conference takes place on Monday 11 January at 06:00 PST / 09:00 EST / 14:00 GMT and is scheduled to last 30 minutes. In the meantime, the existing PSVR headset still works with the PlayStation 5, though owners have to request a free adapter to connect the camera to the system.

HTC has released wireless add-ons for the Vive and Vive Cosmos, but doesn’t support wireless play as standard – perhaps Sony will take a similar approach and release a wireless adapter post-launch. The new controllers are a huge step for Sony, and the company teases that there’s still more to come. The long wait is no real surprise, coming after comments from PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan. First up, supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo thinks the next-gen PSVR headset will appear in 2022 alongside headsets from Apple and Oculus after allegedly seeing order details for Taiwanese lens manufacturer Yujingguang from the three companies.

The same UploadVR leak cited above suggests the new headset will have a resolution of 4000×2040, with 2000×2040 per eye. We’ve collated all the biggest design and feature rumours right here, giving you the best look at what PlayStation VR 2 might offer. "PlayStation believes in VR. Learn more. Again, UploadVR and PSVR Without Parole’s leaks back at least some of this up, agreeing that there will be motorised haptic feedback built into the headset itself. We don’t know exactly what the PSVR 2 will look like, but our best look at it suggests that it won’t be identical to the first generation.

PSVR Without Parole claims that Sony is going to be emphasising remasters of first-gen PSVR games though, so expect to see plenty of older titles re-released and optimised for the new hardware. p>By Alex Walker-Todd, Consumer Tech Editor Alex Walker-Todd| 11 Jan 2021 Sony has already confirmed that the next PSVR will have improvements to both resolution and field of view, so we know to expect some sort of improvement here. The PS5 is backwards compatible with the almost the entire PS4 library, so we expect that to apply to the PlayStation VR library too, though this hasn’t yet been confirmed. PSVR 2 haptics patent Was: £596.33 upfront or £49.94 p/m That’s backed up by finger touch detection, allowing you to make natural gestures in-game, along with the standard plethora of analogue sticks and action buttons. The company has developed a next-gen 3.2in LCD display boasting a 2160 x 2432 resolution and a whopping 1001ppi, which many speculate will be used in the next-gen PSVR headset.

The PlayStation VR 2 is rumoured to sport a lot of new and upgraded tech to improve the overall VR experience for PlayStation gamers (which we go into more detail about below), but of course, the use of high-end tech could bump up the overall price. The patent also depicts a camera built into all-new Move controllers, but we’ll go more detail about that a little bit later. UploadVR has backed up the eye-tracking claim, adding that it will be used to power foveated rendering, a rendering technique that involves reducing image quality in the peripheral vision to allow improved quality in the areas where the player is looking. samsung ces 2021 Sony never implemented this tech on the first PSVR, but this is perhaps a sign that it might be coming to the new more powerful hardware – and that with it, Sony might be intending to invest more deeply into the social side of virtual reality.

The idea is that users making rude gestures could be tracked by the headset’s sensors, and given a ‘safety rating’, with people who hit a certain rating tagged as ‘griefers’ so that they can be banned from certain social areas or marked for investigation. Our resident Apple expert, Lewis covers everything from iPhone to AirPods, plus a range of smartphones, tablets, laptops and gaming hardware. The Samsung S60T is certainly one of the more stylish soundbars in our chart, offering the company’s signature design language at a mid-range price. However, at £159.99/$179.99, the JBL Reflect Flow Pro are comfortably in premium wireless earbud territory, so the question is, do they offer enough to tempt consumers from established buds like the AirPods or Samsung Galaxy Buds? Keep reading to find out. The Denon DHT-S516H soundbar system ticks a lot of boxes for tech-savvy consumers: it sounds marvellous, with crisp highs and booming bass that you can really feel in your chest, the wide soundscape is immersive and the variety of connectivity options from AirPlay 2 to Spotify Connect means you’ll probably be using the system as your go-to speaker for anything music-related, not just when watching TV.

The most common way to connect a soundbar is to use an optical cable, and most modern TVs support it, but it’s probably worth checking your TV has it before buying a soundbar. From: Laptops Direct Now: £1,499.97 (£400 off) There’s also no HDMI pass-though which makes it tricky for those with limited ports. By default you’ll be able to perform tasks like summon your virtual assistant, toggle between ANC and Smart Ambient Mode, control music playback and answer calls, but you can customise them via the JBL Headphones app for iOS and Android. That’s made possible by using a wire to connect the sub to the soundbar and using the amp within the soundbar, but if you’re looking for a wireless subwoofer, you’ll need a second plug nearby to power the sub separately.

Roku boasts one of the most feature-packed and intuitive smart TV experiences around, with a complete roster of UK streaming services and standout features like AirPlay 2 that aren’t on offer from many alternatives in our chart – especially at such a cheap price point. p>By Lewis Painter, Senior Staff Writer Lewis Painter| 20 Oct 2021 Now: $599 ($360 off) While headphones were once simple devices for listening to music, that’s not the case in 2021 – these days, headphones and wireless earbuds have to do more. You’ll also get Chromecast connectivity for wireless playback, and there’s Bluetooth available too, albeit with the basic A2DP codec. Using JBL’s own cinema-level MultiBeam technology within the system, the Bar 5.1 Surround sounds incredible, with the ability to easily project audio around the room with impressive detail, creating an immersive viewing experience.

When not sitting comfortably in your ears, the earbuds live in a matte-finish carry case, complete with a front-facing LED strip to display battery life – an interesting, if not less-accurate way to display battery compared to standard LED lights – and a small wrist strap to keep the case safe. Roku Streambar It is possible, depending on the design of the soundbar, and any wall mount-able soundbar will come with all the brackets and parts you’ll need to attach it – apart from the drill, of course! Overall, the JBL Bar 5.1 offers both great value and impeccable performance. It may not boost 3D immersive audio or Dolby Atmos support, but the audio quality is decent and the bass performance is impressive, if not a little too powerful at times, although levels can be adjusted via the bundled remote.

Now: £649 (£150 off) Now: From £21 per month The soundbar looks sleek and although it may lack standard connectivity options like aux-in, it more than makes up for it with the inclusion of both AirPlay 2 and Chromecast alongside Optical In, HDMI and Bluetooth connectivity. The only real downside is the lack of a remote – the soundbar controls revolve around an app available for iOS and Android, and that’s not the most convenient way to control a soundbar. Though there are exceptions to the rule, most standalone soundbars simply can’t produce full-range sound, so many offload the bass tones to a separate subwoofer. Of course, there are plenty of earbuds with silicon eartips, so JBL has gone a step further and included four sets of ‘Powerfins’ in the box.

Polk MagniFi 2 Was: £596.33 upfront or £49.94 p/m But despite the small dimensions, there’s no sacrifice in the audio department. One of the big bonuses of the JBL Reflect Flow Pro earbuds is the IP68 water and dust resistance, meaning the buds won’t only survive a particularly sweaty gym workout, but a run in a full-blown thunderstorm, and you can wear them to the beach without worry too. Now: £899.90 (£100 off) Most soundbars feature more than just Optical and HDMI – many feature auxiliary and stereo phono jack ports – and while they offer lower quality, analogue feeds, the upside is that either will work with pretty much any TV (and other 3.5mm-enabled devices). The ANC and Ambient Aware modes do the job too, though there are better performers on the market at a similar price. From: Virgin Media Beyond all the usual features you get from Sonos devices like multi-room, the Arc is all about spacial sound, thanks to drivers pointing in all directions and support for Dolby Atmos.

It is high-end, admittedly, but it’s worth pointing out that you get a similar offering without a subwoofer from the competing Sonos Arc. You’ve also got access to built-in Google Chromecast, allowing for wireless playback from the likes of Spotify and YouTube, and three HDMI 2.0 ports provide a handy extension for TVs devoid of HDMI ports. Now: Up to $550 off (With free Galaxy Buds 2) It’s called Smart Ambient, and while it does filter in some sound, it’s not as prominent or detailed as the likes of the AirPods Pro, and at above mid-volume, it’s nearly unnoticeable, so there are certainly better implementations of the tech if that’s high up on your must-have list.

That’s not to say it’s overpowering though; the balance is just right as to not overtake the prominent mids or detailed highs, which stand out in their own right. That said, the lack of a separate subwoofer means it isn’t quite as bass-heavy as some of the alternatives in our chart. The buds themselves are circular, sporting a JBL branded touch-sensitive central button, and the metallic accents help elevate the look of the Reflect Flow Pro above that of the standard Reflect Flow earbuds. There are even some that offer compatibility with virtual assistants like Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, allowing you to control your soundbar with your voice.

Enabling the ANC with a tap of the left earbud immediately quietens the environment around me, though it does a better job at cancelling out high-pitched hums and hisses (like the sound of my fan) than it does with the tooting horns of cars outside. You’ve also got Adaptive Noise Cancellation on offer, which aims to adjust the ANC based on the sounds in your environment, picked up by the six-mic array on the buds. From: Virgin Media Most people are underwhelmed with the sound quality on offer from their TVs, and many are put off by the idea of hooking up a multi-speaker surround sound system. The best alternative is a soundbar, offering much-improved audio quality in a relatively compact package that sits in front of your TV.

The JBL Reflect Flow Pro are fairly compact true wireless earbuds with a stylish design and an even better fit. Now: $99.99 ($50 off) With so many options available, which is the best for your needs? You’ll also find him on the Tech Advisor YouTube channel. The charging case takes a while to top up at around two hours via the USB-C port on the rear, but it’s not necessarily a dealbreaker. Even if the power figures are accurate, wattage isn’t a true representation of volume, as speaker sensitivity also has a part to play when it comes to overall volume. The soundbar does redeem itself somewhat with built-in Amazon Alexa support, allowing you to stream via Spotify, but I’d prefer being able to stream high-quality audio directly from my phone – especially at the price point of the S60T. It’s easily one of the best sounding soundbars we’ve ever tested, and it looks rather nice too.

In fact, JBL encourages you to rinse the earbuds after a sweaty workout to keep them clean – and you won’t see that from many wireless earbud manufacturers. That’s all backed up by a balanced audio experience with great bass and detailed highs, customisable via the JBL Headphones app for iOS and Android. Though the Polk React soundbar doesn’t quite have the bells and whistles of alternatives in our chart, lacking AirPlay 2, Chromecast and other smarts, it makes up for it with deep Amazon Alexa integration – there’s even a built-in Alexa-esque lightstrip.

It’s a capable bit of kit for the price. It works on both iOS and Android, and you can still access Siri on iPhone, giving you hybrid virtual assistant access – perfect if, like me, you go between Siri and Alexa/Google Assistant for smart home control. It also benefits from eARC HDMI, although the problem here – apart from the Arc being expensive – is making sure your TV is compatible to get the most out of the soundbar. Was: £596.33 upfront or £49.94 p/m The main draw over the Beam compared to the Playbase and other Sonos speakers is its size: it’s much more compact than any other soundbar in our chart, making it perfect for smaller rooms. Some manufacturers attempt to wow consumers with huge amplifier power figures, but it’s not worth paying too much attention to.

But, in 2021, it’s all about wireless connectivity, so if you’ll be wanting to play music from your smartphone or tablet, we’d recommend investing in a soundbar with Bluetooth connectivity. Creative Stage 360 The experience is best described as balanced, but if the sound isn’t to your preference, you can always tweak the output using the companion app on your smartphone – a handy plus that isn’t a given among wireless earbuds. From: Laptops Direct Samsung S60T Now: £1,499.97 (£400 off) Denon DHT-S516H First up, you’ll get three sets of silicone ear tips in the box to make sure you find the right size to create a seal in your ears – it not only improves overall audio quality, but it helps improve the ANC capabilities of the buds, and it’ll help the buds stay secure in your ears too. The JBL Bar 5.1 Surround is our favourite soundbar right now. It offers great audio output customisation, making it easy to tweak the output depending on your own taste, and there are five presets to choose from if you’re not too confident.

Audio quality is generally great, producing room-filling audio suited to both TV shows and big Hollywood blockbusters, complete with the ability to boost the bass when required. The buds themselves will last around 10 hours on a single charge (or 8 hours if you have ANC enabled) with the case holding an additional 20 hours of charge for a total of 30 hours. As well as handling general smart queries, you can use Alexa to control the volume, switch audio presets and more – perfect for when you inevitably lose the remote.

The most important factor to consider when buying a soundbar is how you’ll connect it to your TV. Only the best deals on the best products handpicked by our expert editors Our resident Apple expert, Lewis covers everything from iPhone to AirPods, plus a range of smartphones, tablets, laptops and gaming hardware. If you’re after a budget-friendly soundbar that doesn’t compromise on audio quality, the Creative Stage 360 is a solid option.

Audio quality is unsurprisingly excellent, utilising Samsung’s Acoustic Beam technology to project sound around the room to provide an immersive viewing experience, but without a dedicated sub, some may find the bass a little underwhelming. Now: £649 (£150 off) The JBL Reflect Flow Pro offer a notable upgrade from the standard wireless earbuds, with the secure wingtips, IP68 water resistance and great audio performance providing a great experience for runners and other exercise enthusiasts. And, before you ask; no, the JBL Reflect Flow Pro earbuds don’t reflect light.

The buds are lightweight enough to be forgotten about, and unlike some fitness-focused buds, they don’t protrude too far from the ear either. As you might expect, the ANC isn’t quite as all-encompassing as a pair of over-ear headphones, but it certainly takes the edge off. It’s much more compact than the likes of the JBL Bar 5.1 too, although you’ll only get a 4-channel setup here.

They aren’t the cheapest wireless earbuds on the market, and there are cheaper options that offer similar audio quality, but you’ll struggle to find IP68 protection and such a well-built companion app at the budget end of the market. Now: $69.99 ($29.99 off) The high-end wireless earbuds are also available in a range of colours to suit your style, with Black, Pink, Navy Blue and White finishes all available. You’ll also find soundbars that feature HDMI connectivity with any ARC-supported TV – again, it’s worth checking that your TV has Audio Return Channel support before splashing the cash. Learn more. The JBL Reflect Flow Pro wireless earbuds come in at £159.99/$179.95, putting it up against some of the most popular wireless earbuds on the market like the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 and Apple’s new AirPods 3. Only the best deals on the best products handpicked by our expert editors It’s a bit on the expensive side for what’s on offer, but if you’re looking for something stylish, sometimes you have to pay a premium. JBL Bar 5.1 Surround Now: $59.95 ($40 off) Thankfully, that’s not the case with the JBL Reflect Flow Pro buds, whose 6.8mm drivers deliver a wonderfully rounded experience with surprising clarity. In the case of the JBL Reflect Flow Pro, it has gone all-in on smarts, with built-in support not only for Google Assistant but Amazon Alexa too, allowing you to access the popular virtual assistants either with a wake word or a tap of the buds. Of course, it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of more premium soundbars – including the full 5.1 speaker system, offering a simpler 2.1 setup, and AirPlay/Chromecast support – but it ticks many boxes at a cheaper price than we’ve seen previously.

Unlike other entry-level soundbars, the Creative Stage 360 comes with a subwoofer at no extra cost, adding extra oomph to your home cinema experience. The only downside? It’s a fairly hefty setup, which isn’t ideal for smaller TVs – we’d recommend 43in at a minimum. Now: Up to $550 off (With free Galaxy Buds 2) There’s even hands-free access to Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa for extra smarts. The ANC and Ambient Aware tech aren’t groundbreaking, but they’ll suffice for most everyday tasks.

Polk’s affordable MagniFi 2 soundbar and wireless subwoofer combination offers a rich, immersive experience with decent 3D sound capabilities and thumping bass, but without the high-end price tag. Denon DHT-S416 Of course, a pair of wireless earbuds can have all the bells and whistles it likes, but if the audio quality is rubbish, the buds won’t sell. Price comparison from over 24,000 stores worldwide View more prices It’ll suffice for flights and long-distance travel, but don’t expect it to quieten an environment like a loud Central London coffee shop.

When it comes to connectivity, the JBL Reflect Flow Pro offer Bluetooth 5, with the company’s Dual Connect + Sync tech initiating the sync process as soon as the case is opened, making sure the buds are connected and ready to go by the time they’re in your ears. Whether you’ve used Roku before or you’re looking to upgrade your smart TV experience alongside TV audio, the Streambar is a great option. It took a while but Sonos has replaced its original soundbar with the fantastic Arc.

It’s a fairly standard feature, admittedly, and all the soundbars we feature here offer Bluetooth support, but it’s worth keeping in mind. There’s excellent sound quality on offer, although it has to be noted that the Beam, like most other Sonos speakers, doesn’t come with a subwoofer. Take a look at our selection of the best true wireless earbuds to see how the Reflect Flow Pro compares to the competition, and we’ve got the best budget wireless earbuds for those on the market for something more affordable. It’s affordable but still manages to include premium features like Dolby Atmos, and a combination of HDMI, Optical and Bluetooth connectivity makes it a versatile option, though a standard 3.5mm port would’ve been appreciated. Overall, it’s a feature-packed soundbar that’s also easy on the bank balance.

Now: £899.90 (£100 off) The buds can also do the opposite, filtering in outside sounds to make you more aware of the environment. Only the best deals on the best products handpicked by our expert editors The bass performance is punchy and deep when listening to tracks like AWOLNATION’s Sail, ideal for a pair of exercise-focused buds to keep you going during those tough moments. Now: $499.99 ($50 off) If you’re on the market for a cheap soundbar and wireless sub combo, Denon’s DHT-S416 is a solid option that outshines similarly priced standalone soundbars. By Lewis Painter, Senior Staff Writer Lewis Painter| 21 Oct 2021 Sonos Arc While it’s usually only premium soundbars that come with an accompanying subwoofer, Denon’s DHT-S416 bucks that trend with its budget-friendly 2.1 soundbar & wireless sub combo.

JBL’s Reflect Flow Pro earbuds are an upgrade to its running-focused Reflect Flow, offering key upgrades including bigger drivers for better-sounding audio, dedicated wingtips to keep the buds secure when exercising, adaptive noise cancellation tech to quieten the outside world and improved IP68 dust and water resistance, all for an additional £30/$30. JBL has bundled a few extra accessories with the Reflect Flow Pro to make sure they stay snug in your ears during workouts – a key feature for a fitness-focused pair of buds. Now: £37 Clubcard Price (£13 off) Now: $599 ($360 off) Connectivity is a mixed bag – you’ll find ports for HDMI ARC and Optical in, meaning it’s not ideal for older TVs, and while there’s Bluetooth, there isn’t AirPlay or Chromecast support. Now: From £21 per month The silicon fins fit into the natural fold of your ears to keep the bud even more secure, especially helpful during impact sports and fast-paced exercise, and they work as advertised once you find the right size for your ears – I’ve gone on several runs with the Reflect Flow Pro buds and not felt the need to readjust the fit mid-run like I usually do with my AirPods Pro. jbl reflect flow pro headphones review 1 There’s even a Check My Best Fit feature in the JBL Headphones app to make sure you’ve got the best seal possible.

That’s backed up by the 10in wireless subwoofer that delivers thunderous bass, adjustable via the bundled remote. You’ll also find him on the Tech Advisor YouTube channel. Depending on your budget, your soundbar can do much more than simply play TV audio – some high-end options offer compatibility with AirPlay and Chromecast, while others offer Spotify Connect integration for wireless music playback. It’s wired rather than wireless, but that shouldn’t be much of an issue for most consumers. Via Alexa, you’re able to stream songs from Amazon Music, Spotify and other streaming providers, but you’ve also got Bluetooth if you want to stream from your phone.

The dedicated subwoofer produces much deeper, richer bass than any standalone soundbar, making explosions, gunfire and the soundtracks in Hollywood blockbusters and the latest AAA games sound incredible. The audio quality is decent for a soundbar at this price, and even without a bundled sub the bass is decent, but you’ll need to invest in one for the full bass experience.
